I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Living in a home you dislike or one that stresses you out is not a good way to start or end your day.
When your home is uninspiring and frustrating, those negative feelings constantly follow you around on a subconscious level. When you don’t like what you see in your home, you are far more likely to let it become disorganized and cluttered because “it doesn’t matter anyway.” And so your discontentment continues to get worse, not better.
On the other hand, the power of waking up and going to sleep in a home you love every day is HUGE.
For example, we moved into a house with a dark, dreary kitchen. We both absolutely hated it. The red was a bleak shade of red, and the wood trim was so very worn and drab. Almost daily, one of us commented on how much we disliked it. And to top it all off, the fridge didn’t even fit beneath the cabinets properly, so it was always an annoyance.
Here’s the depressing “Before” shot.
And here’s a close-up of the windowsill.Ugh!
Finally, I had enough and grabbed a paintbrush. With nothing more than paint, some spackling and repair, our kitchen was transformed into a bright, blissful room. My friend even said, “It just makes you smile to walk in here!”
Here it is now.
It’s hard to even put into words just how much this impacts us daily. Again, the power of waking up and going to sleep in a home you love every day is HUGE.
Love your home
The more I hear from my audience, the more I realize there are three big obstacles to people loving their homes: clutter, disorganization and lack of style.
